searched but unclear on tranny cooler install. need help.

to start with, i know there are plenty of threads about this, but all was unclear as to my actual questions, i have already searched and read most. so here goes.

well the temps down here in GA keep geting warmer and warmer. I have a Hayden Ultra-Cool 405 trans-cooler. last year around this time my radiator busted, and got anti-freeze all in my tranny and killed it, so i rebuilt it, and picked this up, but was unsure of how install it. so its just been sitting around collecting dust. i'm wanting to route it so it doesnt go through the radiator but would that be a good idea?? my truck has the optional small external trans cooler also , so should i keep that there and just connect this in line?? i want to know the BEST way to do it. plan to do it this weekend. also what lines are what far as feed line, return line. ???im guessing the line running from the tranny to the external cooler is the feed, and line running from the radiator to the tranny is the return????

any help would be greatly appreciated!

if not mistaken the top line is the feed bottom is the return, just put the cooler inline.. you can use the smaller cooler also it wont hurt nothing just give it alittle extra cooling, i use 2 45s inline with each other

I got this same question, so I went to a Trans Expert and gave me a fast non tech answer. Water will always be a beter cooler than air. Understanding that, the temp at the trans fluid is almost always higher than the Engine oil temp (explosions and flames are handle inside the engine and not inside the trans) so the water will be better to absorb the heat of the trans fluid that the air by it self. After lowering the temps with water you can aid warever HD A/A fluid cooler/s as long as you dont restring pressure that much.

I was thinking that the radiator trans cooler was there to take the trans fluid to working temp fast, and for cold weathers, but this Trans expert told me I was wrong and under the influence of a lot of urban legends.

I live in a place where the cold climate temp is 32* Celcius, and I use the radiator trans cooler and then 2 HD a to a coolers and I hold the temps to 185*F and on some passes I can see 195F but never pass that temp.

    Hope it makes sense.......regards.

bro its not that hard, just disconnect the tranny lines from the radiator, use some good hose and clamp each end parallel to the cooler, i didnt cut the ends off the tranny line i was able to fit the hose over the ends ..

i would never run a tranny line through the radiator ever again for the simple fact its happened to me!!

Top line is return, not the bottom.
