you would be fine with 9.7:1 the throttle would feel a bit laggy compared to how it drives right now but nothing major i think the 4.8's are 9.2:1 or something like that (some one correct me if im wrong) but i would get a set of 317's get them ported by some one and get you a custom boost cam and swap all that out. then when you have the money for the turbo kit order it and slap it on.

I think I would just try another cam, seems to me that it is way small for your setup. hey if you go to different headers wouldn't mind having though e-bay headers from speed daddy to try out. By the way what gears and stall you have in that rolling sleigh.

I will sell the headers eventually. Whether it be because of getting bigger headers or turbo manifold. Gears are 3.73 and currently running a TB I-6 Stall that will be swapped sooner or later for my Circle D 3200 stall

I feel like just getting a bigger boost cam is gonna make a big difference. Idk if I want a huge N/A style cam, it would probably make it less streetable?

Even going with a big turbo cam, should help out some over the small cam you have. But it will just shine that much more when it is being pushed around by 10 psi of boost!

IMO, you could prob add about 100 rwhp or more by adding better heads, cam, and exhaust. I don't know why you're treating your 383 like it's a 5.3...

I pretty set on getting a turbo set up going at this point. What do you guys think on the heads? Worth it to get some nice 70-74cc CNC ported heads or just get some stockers (317s) freshened up and run those?

My buddy bought a 5.3 for his firebird, he had a ls1 in it. decided he wants boost! So 5.3 is in, 317 heads are on, and a big boost cam! 232/238 @ .050 with .605/.610 lifts! He is going for 13/15 psi and 600 rwhp! So let's see you get some big boost numbers!
