harley davidson keeps running after shut off

Need to have some of your carb guy’s verify something. my fathers 883 sportster keeps running after he shuts off the key for around 30 sec to 45 sec. he has aftermarket vance and hine’s exhaust on it.

The reason I think its doing this is he didn’t put a carb kit on it or any carb mods to add more fuel so the bike is dieseling. More fuel and or lower temp plug will solve this problem correct?

You realize this is a Chev Truck forum right? But no It's not carb related. I put a set of drag pipes and open pod filters on my Honda, to say it was lean before I tuned it was an understatement, it never did it. You have an electrical issue, a little sportster doesn't have the compression to diesel.

you mean Chevy doesn’t make harley davidson!??!?!?!?!jk

So your saying the spark plug electrode couldn’t be getting hot enough to detonate fuel to create vacuum to keep sucking in fuel to keep the bike running?
It doesn’t do it all the time only on hot days after a long ride (should have added in the first post)

It very well could be, but just adding a new set of pipes wouldn't make it go that lean. Pull the plugs, if they are getting that hot they will be visually melted

Never heard of that happenning on a Harley. Sounds electrical. If it was that lean it would have other issues like backfiring through the carb. No spark No Boom.

Something isn't shutting the ignition off....I'd guess a stuck/sticking relay or something, once power is switched could take a little while for it to jump back to the off position.

Unless he has to turn the petcock off at the tank to kill it, it's not carb related, otherwise it'd never shut off, the bowl would just keep refilling from the tank. If it dies when bowl runs dry, it'd be a PITA to restart cuz you'd have to get enough fuel in the bowl to feed the bike.
blown transmissions are about as useful as 97% of the guys on this forum

Thanks all for your help and suggestions, problem was solved with a new set of plugs and a bigger main and slow jet(s)
