trade in trade out vehicle purchase

A friend of mine has a 04' 2500HD truck that i want really bad. I want to purchase this truck out right from him, but when he talked to the dealership they were pushing him to trade it in for the price i want to pay, and then sell it directly to me + the taxes. Has anyone one heard of this kinda deal? Just wondering whats the advantage for the dealership. They told him it would save him some on the taxes of the new truck he's buying, but i duno..

No doubt you will be the one with the green weenie on that one. Heck no. If he don't wanna sell it to you tell him to keep it.

Not a problem with that as long as they sell to you for the same price. Your buddy will save some on taxes if he trades it. When you trade in a car, you only pay taxes on the difference between the new car price and the trade in price. Otherwise he will be paying taxes on the full amount of the new vehicle.

If they don't sell to you for the same price he would have, you can sue them for the difference and you WILL win. Business Law 101.

Its really not a bad idea at all... you are going to have to pay taxes on it sooner or later, so weather you but it from him or them you will pay the same.

The advantage will be for him not having to pay taxes on the full price of the new truck he's buying.

I'd get something in writing from them before he trades it in so they dont try to pull some crap.
