I didn't realize that the LS2 bare block was priced that "low." I also found some info on SLP's 402 short blocks in low & high compression versions. I knew you could sleeve a 346 to 360, but had not idea on the 5.3L motor. I'm aware few years ago that you could get 383 (sleeve/stroke) without any difficulty from the 346 LS1.
So it appears it's probably better to get the bigger block and stroked. I'm not looking for astro power, but something that's smooth/tractable/reliable & cammed mildly... around 400+hp/tq at the crank at around 400 cubes, little bit of headwork around 10-10.5-1 CR. NOT wanting a 4x4 drag truck! Have had my fill of track cars over years and still have another little "toy."
