New in Colorado, blown 99 Suburban vortec looking to upgrade/swap.

So looks we did some damage to the 5.7 engine this weekend heading up the passes. Since we are looking at replacing the engine thought we would research doing a swap to a newer better setup. Perhaps even pulling the tranny out and going stronger as well.

I have seen a variety of talks about throwing the newer 5.3 and 80e into vehicles but can't find any thing that breaks it down on what is available now a days and the benefits. We want a strong daily driver that can go over the passes and carry a full load of family for vacations. Better gas efficiency is nice and of course power that doesn't destroy the gas mileage. :-)
