    sometimes i really hate SoCal

i am all for clean air and making the environment better but the things California is making me do as a company isnt trying to help the air, its trying to put me and my dad out of business. a bill was passed saying special mufflers need to be put on all collection trucks. Being that we own and run a trash company all of our trucks fall under that category. So we pay the 20,000 + for each truck for a new special clean air muffler to be put on. Having about 14 trucks in our fleet this nearly broke us but we were still able to get it done. Now this clean air comity is saying theres a new rule. if there is more then 15 trucks in the entire city ( meaning including every trash company) all trucks must be replaced with new natural gas trucks which cost over 300,000 dollars each. there is no way we can afford to do this. we cannot compete with company's as big as Waste Management. and when we went to a public hearing and told them this is putting all small business out of business they dont care at all they just say, " well dont you want clean air for your kids". which we do but not at the cost of living on the streets. sorry i just had to vent because the stress is really getting to me.

    How about this?

Have your dad "sell" you 7 of the trucks have him keep the other 8. 2 companys one with 7 one with 8. Neither one large enough to have to buy new trucks.

    Just a thought.

Isn't there some sort of industry organisation for you garbage guys to fight stuff like this? Like SEMA for hotrods or the ACPA for concrete pumping?

I reread your post. You mean if there are more than 15 trucks total not just the trucks in your own company?

That's the problem there is no real organization from stopping them
from doing things like this. And it's if there is more then 15 trucks total in the city not just our company. Which of course there is more then 15 trucks for an entire city. Waste managment run over 30 trucks alone that doesn't inure the 8 other trash companies in the city

Hell yea, it's become the norm for people to get pushed around like this. We gotta start standing up for small business, and the old American way!

the funny thing is the big companies havent even complied and they arent getting punished. Just us little guys are getting screwed with tickets and inspections. I agree we must take a stand for small business because they are getting shut down at a scary fast rate. We are definitely going to fight it till we're broke, and if that does happen i guess it will be time to come up with a plan B hahah
