i was in a buddys truck last night helping him set shift points in his tune, while we were WOT on the 1-2 shift something "popped" and we let off, got back on it and it was in 4th gear, and we made it home, killed it and started back up and put it in drive and it wont do anything, if you put it in 1 it will take off fine and go through all the gears fine if you shift it manually, but it will no shift itself at all, upshift or downshift.
ive never seen this before, anyone got any ideas???

why would it work perfect when manual shifting?
I think when u Manuel shift you lock the converter I may be wrong

Heard of that happening, but usually indicates a TPS, VSS or wiring problem. Not sure where the loud bang would fit into that.
the speedo still works
this happend on my original stock 60e, then after about a week of driving it it just locked up and wouldnt go anywhere, upon disassembly i had pretty much welded all the trans pieces into one chunk of metal, so dont be suprised if she's toast.
