That 180 will start to open at 180* but will not maintain a consistent 180 temp. If you want a lower running engine temp, put a 160 in. Personally I would stick with a stock thermostat. The way I see it, our engines are designed to run at the temperature that the stock thermostat allows. I would think you would get excessive blow-by with a lower operating engine temp

~ Forged engine of some type ~ Ball bearing turbo of an unconfirmed size ~ 4L8000 trans ~ Beefy fuel system ~

to cold isnt going to hurt blow by. I run no stat and just use restrictor, crusing my temps are 150*, highest ive seen with this setup is 185* and that was in stop and go traffic with AC on. My motor has no blow by. granted this ist for everyone

if yorue going off the gauge then youll be led falsely. to monitor proper temp you would need either aftermarket gauge or a scanner

    the gauge reads head temp
    2002 Lightning - GT headed 5.5Litre w/ Twin 7665s
    2002 Silverado - 427Lsx w/ Twin gt4202s
    2010 Silverado crewcab Z71 - 5.3litre w/ procharger
    2000 Wrangler - 5.3litre with some stance
    2014 Xsport- 3.5 Eco boost
    412 Motorsports

it ain't that I'm too big to listen to the rumors, It's just that I'm too damn big to pay attention to 'em..That's the difference
