96 axle interchangable??

I saw this 96 silverado with calipers and leaf springs in the back and it was a 6 lug! looks excatly like my axle i was wondering if the axle housing would interchange with all my internal axle parts on my 2004 silverado?

I thought this was weird that a 96 had a 6 lug when all the other trucks there that were before 1999 are 5 lug if there arent a 2500 or 3500.

let me clear up some stuff for you

88-98 1500s were 5 lug 2wd and 6 lug 4wd

NONE of them EVER came with discs in the back

your 04 silverado has an 8.6 carrier the 96 has a 8.5 UNLESS it has the 14 bolt semi floater which is a 9.5

the 2wd axles are not as wide as the 4x4 axles

someone did an axle swap i'd probably grab the whole thing
