    my vote, take it to a shop. not an insult so please dont take it that way, but from your questioning this is not something you should tackle. it may cause you many more expensive issues. a good gm dealership can probably fix this and get you on the road for less than a hundred bucks. if you try and leave pinion to lose or to tight its going closer to a grand. i work at a dealership, probably 15 to 20% of our work is fixing other peoples mistakes.
