Has anyone swapped a ls1 into a 88-98 chev? I am currently doing a frame off resto on my 90 chevy and am wanting to drop in a ls2 with a T-56. I'm looking for anyone who has done this and what kind of problems did you run into. Thanks for the help.

No real problems. You need motor mount adapters and a stand-alone wiring harness. The VATS need programmed out of the PCM. Other than that it's pretty straight forward. Headers will have to be custom built if you want long tubes otherwise stick with stock f-body or truck manifolds since they flow as good as shorties do. G-body headers from Street and Performance are available in mid-length style. You'll need electric fans. I used an f-body engine and everything pretty much bolted right in even the power steering hoses. You'll have to custom fabricate a cold air induction system unless you want to breath hot air fresh off the radiator using a direct bolt-on air cleaner.

The worst part is theft-proofing an 88-98 since they are so easy to steal, a screw driver is all it takes.

This is kind of a thread hijack, but it's really a sad commentary on our society that this is major concern. You put all that sweat, effort and dollars into a project you love doing. The result is something to really be proud of, and some thieving scumbag literally violates you.

I love the good old USA - But sometimes i think a little "Chinese Justice", ie, quick trial and rifle bullet in the back of the head, would make some of those scumbags think twice about it. But that's just me.

Anyhow, playtoy, good luck w/ your swap.

Thanks for the commentary Jeff. I agree 100% on the quick justice. We cow-tow too much to criminals these days. They have more rights than the rest of us. Shoot, even illegal aliens have better benefits here in the US than US citizens do. Somebody needs to rip that book out of the statue of liberty's hands and throw it back at the damn Frenchies.

Playtoy, you'll need a high pressure pump in your tank. I had a 93 Corvette LT1 pump in my 92. The 93 is getting a Walbro 255LPH pump. Use a Wix fuel filter 33737 and fuel injector type rubber hose to plumb it all together with quick connects you can buy at the parts store. I cut the lines at the factory filter location and patched it together there. The filter has an internal regulator and keeps the install simple for those of us with a single line fuel injector rail.

Thanks for the info. Sound like a easy enough swap. I know what you mean about being jacked. This is the same truck I drove back in high school so it has kind of a sentamental value more than anything. Two of my good buddies had their trucks jacked, one of them walked out of the mall and watched someone drive off in his truck! The cops caught the guy that stole and stripped it and he only got probation and community service! It is a shame that someone can destroy your creation and only get a slap on the hand. A little Chineese justice might just be what we need. I hope to be ready to start putting the ls2 in a few months from now. Right now I am having the body work and paint done but next on the list is a new ls2 with a procharger. This combo along with a T-56 ought to be a pretty fun truck to drive. Again thanks for the info and I'll keep you posted with my progress.
