Technically speaking, there is a trans fluid temp sensor built into the tranny. It's part of the fluid pressure switch assembly. The trans temp gauge in the Denali/Escalade cluster is using output from that sensor.
Guess GM didn't think us poor slobs, who can't lay out the $$$ for a Denali/Escalade, would find that information useful
