    Need Help with DD

So last night after work on the way home I filled my truck up with 93octane ethonal. I normally dont use ethonal, but had to since I was far from home with an empty tank. Afterwards I come across a Stang and race him, so neddless to say I pulled to 6,000 rpms. No wierd sounds.

This morning I start my truck to go to work and I hear valvetrain noise on the passemger side motor. Normally my 6.0 is a little loud when cold, but this is way louder than normal. And normally the knocking noise goes away when I gain rpms. Now the ticking noise speeds up as I gain rpms.

What do I need to look at first? The motor is a 2001 LQ4 6.0 with stock vavletrain.

Does it go away once warm?

Isn't the Ethanol fuel like a generic 110 octane or something. Might just be a detination issue do to the octane. Are you ethanol compatable?

I'm sure someone with more knowledge will post.

I am not sure if it goes away when hot. It ran for about 5min this morning though, so that should be plenty warm.

There was also a noise that sounded like someone ringing a small bell.

And if it makes a difference, I had a live tune with non-ethonol 93octane. Never gotten gas at this place, but it wasnt making this noise the whole 30 miles I drove last night. Just wondering if me getting on it did something??

And yes, my trans is still fine...

So you ran 93 octane with the typical 10% Ethanol? Could be loose rocker/s/ or a collapsed lifter, what's your oil pressure look like?

E85 or 93 octane with 10% eth? If it's E85 you're probably hearing detonation and you need to drain the fuel and start over.

it was 93octane with 10%ethonal. And btw, ethonal is not typical in my area.

    Got everything under control now.
    Thanks.

Almost every station just an hour north of you has E10. Non-eth is very hard to find up here.

only gas within 300 miles of here without ethanol is the 103 octane at gas city.
blown transmissions are about as useful as 97% of the guys on this forum

    +1

I'm from Fort Worth, the major majority of the stations are 10% ethanol. I lived in Tarrant County and I believe all their stations are regulated to 10% ethanol mix.

Regardless, it would not effect Dale's tune, 93 octane with or without E10 is 93 octane. If the valve train clatter is there all the time and speeds up with RPM's something is wrong....
