jesus dude....nice way to one up me
And of course the LS was designed to be a mass produced engine, obviously. V8's are always more prevalent in trucks than cars, so its no wonder that the numbers are in the trucks favor. But that engine was created to go against the ohc motors that everyone else was putting out, but at a much lower cost. It was not designed for NASCAR. Im sure everyone here knows who Will Handzel is, read his book on the LS, tells the whole story of its conception
Will used to write for Hot Rod. Yes, it was built for NASCAR as it has all the good of the Yates Ford and all the good of the Northstar Cadillac with good ole' Chevrolet longevity....
Not trying to question you here, but I have yet to read anything suggesting the LS was even considered for NASCAR. All the literature Ive seen states that the Corvette engineers were considering a switch to ohc. They then did a side by side comparison with a prototype dohc motor (possibly some version of the LT5, cant remember) and an LT4, and then the rest is history. They utilized their vast experience in NASCAR racing to help design the engine, but primarily the LS was created because of new standards set by the feds and corporate to raise performance, reliability, emissions standards, and ease of manufacturing. If Im wrong on this then I'll take a big fat piece of humble pie. But if Im right, then Im the world champion of Virginia and perhaps southern Maryland.....and the Outer Banks of North Carolina![]()
It's a Yates F**d engine with Caddy skirted block (one piece instead of two like the Caddy)....why else would GM copy and improve the Yates head? This is off topic....
Full tilt?![]()
Hmmm. So this explains why people were looking at me, as if I had two heads yesterday while I was detailing a Corvette.
I Dont really get challenged in the vette that much. Usually when I do, its by a slow diesel, or a faster car like a Porsche. Then again Im not counting racing my friends in mexico either. Big red beats me on motor/motor runs.
