Stock 5.3L heads flow very poorly and I wouldn't even consider using them on a 6.0 without having them worked.

As far as the engines, they are a direct swap as long as you have a 4.8 or a 5.3L. Make sure you have a Gen III engine rather than a Gen IV engine. They have different reluctor wheels and the cam position sensor is in the front on the newer engines.

As far as the transmissions. It is a fairly easy swap. The hardest part is the transmission crossmember. If you have a 99-early 2000 truck the crossmember is extremely easy to modify. If you have a 2000.5-2006 then you'll need to section it and move the mount back about 6"(it may be more or less, I forget).

The wiring harness can be altered fairly easy by switching a few wires here and there.

You can even use the factory driveshaft on the 2wd truck but you'll need to modify the yolk at the differential.

There's a few more little things here and there, but that's pretty much the basics of it. The engine swap is the easy part, an the transmission swap is a bit more involved but certainly do-able.

I'm pulling this from memory so forgive me if it's a bit off.

Gen III engines are the older style LSx based engines.

    This includes:
99-06 4.8/5.3/6.0 engines from the nbs trucks.
Pretty much all Ls1 engines(the 04 GTOs may have been a gen IV though)
    LS6 engines from 01-04
    98-02 camaro/transam ls1 engines

    Gen IV engines:
    Ls2
    Ls3
    LS7
    Ls9
Basically all the corvette engines from 05-current
The 07-up nnbs silverados are all gen IV engines
The new camaro engines are all Gen IV

    Hopefully you get the trend.

hey randomhero, what's up. Just joined here on the search of more info!

You happen to know off hand if the LQ9's out of the '06 Escalades are GenIII or not? Was it even possible they had GenIV's or not? I really have no clue.
I'm going tomorrow to take a look at a cheap low mile longblock out of one and would like to know what to look for as far as possible differences. Need the GenIII to swap in place of my '02 5.3.

Can anyone here confirm, or have details?

None of the utilities have the GEN IV in 2006. Your Escalade engine is a GEN III.

Gotcha, exactly what I was wanting to hear anyway. I was not sure if there was some fluke and for some reason GM started to put the Gen IV's in the Cadi's early or something like that, so I wanted to confirm if it was even possible.

Anyway, '06 LQ9 longblock is currently sitting in the back of my truck waiting to be unloaded!
...too bad I can't afford to do much with it anytime soon...
