Dude the guy asked for reasons that his truck ran slow, so I gave him one. I've heard it and been told it by many others on this site! I dont need to get flamed for responding to a post...you got all the answers why isn't it ssthis.com. I was told by people who work for nelson to "wait" for it to kick in, so I'm guessing you mean hes a bad tuner who makes excuses?

Just like you I gave my opinion on it! Don't mean I'm right though, I'm trying to figure it out how that would work??? Just give me an explaination on it to understand it!!! I might not know about the Chevy's computer but IMO no matter what it is Chevy, Ford, Dodge they should be the same. I quess we will find out after he drives it 500 miles or so and heads out to the track again! I asked if that was the tuner excuse that was it too. I can't say he is a bad tuner or a good one he hasn't tuned my stuff

Every truck responds differently to changes. Some take about a week, some see immediate results. I know with my truck NA and then going to FI it still had a break in period.

When I first got it tuned with just the stock 5.3 with bolt ons, after 3 or 4 days it got better.

When I had it tuned for 10lbs, I went to track immediately that evening and was pretty disappointed, I went a couple of weeks later pulled a half a second with the same 60ft. It just seemed to get better and better.

Skeet idk if that was supposed to be a mean remark or not, so I won't take it as one. All I can tell you is 90% of people I've talked to say you think his tune is good now, wait till it "kicks" in. I've gathered that the computer takes some time to fully adjust itself to the person's vehicle and when it does it gets better.? My truck does feel faster now than it did right after I put the tune in. Hope I'm somewhat close.

na, i wasnt trying to be mean or a smartazz, i was just currious thats all, as i never heard about the tune needing miles, i remember once someone told me the first few minutes of driving or so the computer learns how you drive, dunno go figure.basically i never even heard a tuner say anything different. \


on a side note weather has a huge affect on how these trucks run, asi found out this pass weekend, i only was able to muster a 12.389 run , 12.4's most of the night, when 2 weekends prior i was hitting 12.1's 12.0's all night!!!

i always figured a computrer is a computer unless you upgrade it, like from a 99 to a 01 02 computer. which has a faster processor or something.

Tunes do need a little time to "learn the engine"

The computer will synce up better the longer its run
and make more power and run better.


and yep, 4.10 gears will give you the off the line acceleration you're missing.

I have no technical explanation for it either and it makes no sense but it seems it worked that way for mine too.

I have discussed this "break in" with an efi live instructor...he told me that a tune will tweak its elf over a period of 100 miles or so BUT NOTHING you will notice..If your truck is shifting like crap for example when you put in a new tune it won't get better with time...

Im not far off from you in my land yacht! I ran a best of 10.54 @ 67mph in the 1/8 with like a 2.4x 60 all i had at the time was an intake but like everyone says its the weather! When i ran it was in the low 70s in the fall. when i got my tune it did feel better after a few weeks of driving! It will now burn the tires on dry pavement lmao

thanks brad, that makes alot of sense!!! thats something i can understand lol.. i guess what i am looking at is the pcm or ecm whichever!! is nothing but a processor which processes signals , kinda like your home computer, it processes data which so does an auto computer, now i ask myself well my laptop or desk top doesnt get any faster over time lmfao!!! so why should a auto computer... but i do understand its capiable of tweaking its self why it learns but like you mentioned nothing that you can actually feel.. once again thanks for something more logical !!!

I am in no way trying to bring anyone down by disliking thier tune ....I am EXTREMELY happy with the tune and am totally impresed on how the retune affected my top end that things rips up top!! but i was just kinda let down by my times....granted it was like 100 degrees with 99% humidity i am told that was decent for my mods i guess i just overexpected but hey good excuse for more mods. . . .anyone wanna part with a 3000 stall?
