There is a reason 99% of cars come with 195* t-stat

    1. Engine needs to warm up to run properly.

    2. Computer never comes out of "cold start warm up" mode.

    Never run lower than a 180* t-stat.

i call BS on that since closed loop starts at 92 or 94* on these motors. if the motor is tuned properly for it, its not going ot hurt it. the reason they put 195 in for proper burning of fuel for everyday vehicles and emissions

it ain't that I'm too big to listen to the rumors, It's just that I'm too damn big to pay attention to 'em..That's the difference

You might have an issue as mine has a 160 in it and barely cracks 175 if ever. Then again, no tstat can make one run hotter because the coolant doesn't stay in the radiator long enough.

Closed loop starts at 153 degrees. Put too low a tstat in and you'll get P0128. With add on OEM efans and a 160 mine will set this code in the winter when the auto AC turns on the compressor and therefore the fans and the coolant never get warms enough for closed loop hence the P0128.

I would not say never go below 180 'cause a 160 does have a proper application but my 160 needs to be a 180 and I WOULD NEVER RECOMMEND NO TSTAT TO ANYONE for a driver, only a track only, TRACK ONLY vehicle.

There is also a reason all cars come with catalytic converts too.

DTC sets on ANYTHING '96 and newer if ECT doesn't get to 153 in a certain time so we're arguing two different issues. But then again, 13X is too cool for optimum performance especially with heat shedding aluminum heads.

All my readings are using a GM Tech 2.

No offense man but that means you need a 180 tstat as described.

    looks nice,
would a plastic intake stay cooler than a aluminum intake?
