i dont think they made any 5.3 4x4 manual trucks. I tried to buy one in 02 and the dealer told me the manual only came with a 4.8 2x4 or a 2500hd truck. just wondering. why do you want a manual? I love manual trucks, ive had them forever, but i just converted mine to auto from all the issues I was having.

The best advice I have ever heard:... Only take B( . Y . )ST advice from someone that is CURRENTLY running a turbo setup close to, or bigger than what you want......

Lord Aries posted a big write up on conversion from automatic to manual on his 5.3 Avalanche 4WD in the Avalanche forum. He looked at NV3500, NV4500, and ZF S6-650. He went with the ZF6, added work, added weight, added cost, but good report on performance and monster durability. Also has some hindsight recommendations. Worth a read.

I want a manual because i like the feel of peformance. Ive been doing lots of reading and from what ive read the 3500 and 4500 are not performance trans anyhow. I have a 4x4 and like the idea of all wheel drive. nice in the winter. I just want a kick but dd, street only hit the strip once or twice a year.

if you wont awd do the tcase swap to to awd i dont think its a good idea to go 6 speed but if you insist you could do the devorsed tcase not a good idea but it would be unique

I dont need the 6 speed just thinking a 5 speed would be cool and im in need of a new tranny soon. im thinking the 4500 is the way to go the gear ratios are almost the same as my 4l60 with a granny gear (wich i dont think i will ever use). I will keep my Tcase.

Gear splits and shift throws are awful on the 3500 and the 4500 has a granny 1st that is unusable in any performance arena other than weird truck pulling rock crawling stuff.

if you wont performance go t56 but it will prob brake alot without an integrated tcase i say stay auto and just get a 4l80e with a shift kit and a stall and be happy
