yea its got thick padding underneath,it could be a bedlol,its water/stain proof all that good stuff.and yea flushed bed lid is next.

I bought the Bed Rug brand one from Summit Racing 4 years ago, and it's still like new of course there is a tonneau cover over it. It is definately gentler on your knees when your crawling around in the bed, and I also use my truck tent with it and it is definately comfortable to sleep on. I am sure you will love your's too, I will always have one from now on I think. Here's a pic of mine:
