Thread: AWD conversion slowed

Well it just got slowed further. I have been hearing this noise and feeling this vibration lately. Well I thought the vibration was the cheap used tires out of balance. Well today on the way to work the noise steady gets louder and louder. Well Still cant figure out what it is. I leave work to get my daughter from school and as I am thinking to myself something is really bad wrong I realize what the noise is. My 3 year old year end is going south. BAD BAD timing. My wife is in Orlando and I have no other form of transportation. I limp to the school and limp back to work where I have tons of tools and can lock my truck up inside the building safely. I had to rent a car. My mechanic will be back tomorrow to look at it.

Broken 3.73 gear that slowed and sped up the swap.
Awd front diff with 4.10 gears out of Silverado SS

More pics will follow once the swap is done. The 3.73 gears breaking helped with making it easier to find a front diff that was compatible with the awd transfer case. The rear end now has a new set of 4.10s. The guy on my payroll that is a ASE certified tech has come to the conclusion that it is not a wise idea to run the front awd diff with the non awd transfer case/autotrac. Not worth the risk of breaking anything to ride for a few days like this. What it really means is we R&R the transfer cases tomorrow. The front diff is bolted in and ready. We will have to wrestle the transfer case swap without the aid of a lift that we had lined up to use. I will try to do a writeup in this in this thread and then copy it completed into its own How to thread. It may take me a few days and some proofreading from someone other than myself.

    Oh yeah

GasGuzzler thanks for your help. I appreciate ya. I have something for ya in the next couple of weeks.
