Not trying to skimp out on anything, just thought it would be interesting from an engineering stand point to pull it off with 87. 93 it is then.

If the 408 bore is .030 more than the 6.0, what can be gained/lost from boring it .040 with the same 4" stroke.
cant compare apples to monkeys. two different beasts.

it ain't that I'm too big to listen to the rumors, It's just that I'm too damn big to pay attention to 'em..That's the difference

So, how would the change in bore affect the engine overall?

as long as you dont go too thin it wont do anything different. if you go too big it will run hot, and you might chance a hole in the cylinder wall if you put no2 on it.

the motor will act the same no matter the bore, some will have more cubes and smaller bores will have less, this equals out to a few ponies, but thats pretty much it.

So really, doing the 383 or 408, would be about the difference between the 4.8 and 5.3. There is a difference, and if you had the choice of the 408 take it, but if you didn't the 383 would be just fine, and actually very equal to the 408. Making sure I'm following.

My 4.8 knocks more than I like now, and looking at going a similar route. Except my 4.8 block checked for boring stroking it to 383. Or get the 6.0 block and going 408.

Is my thinking right with the 383-408 to 4.8-5.3 comparison?
    - Waiting for an lq9 swap - Super 40 center in dual out - battery swap to spare tire location - exhaust turndown -

you picked the only motor that wouldn't be the right comaprison...
the 4.8 has a shorter stroke then any of the other ls motors. the 383 to 408 is more along the lines of a 5.3 to 6.0 swap. generally speaking more stroke means more tq. it depends on what your plans are, a 408 is a gas hog from hell, the 383 will be a great engine that could still be driven daily.

are you wanting to build a steet truck, a tow pig, a fun daily, or a stip beast?

okay then a stroker with a mild cam is not a bad plan, but personally I would find an lq4 in good condition and strap a maggi or vortec s/c on it. look into your options, they will cost close to the same. The boosted 364(6.0) will make the same power as the 408, plus you will not need a big stall or extensive internal mods. Really all you would want is a blower cam and large injectors.
