having an egr system technicaly lets you get away with a little more timing, it helps prevent knock becasue the exhaust gas doesnt burn, it just takes up room during combustion so theres less heat being produced becasue there is less gas being burned. if you rip the egr off on the stock tune it might ping at part throttle becasue you cant run as much part throttle timing without the egr functioning. already burnt exhaust gas taking up room during combustion also means slightly better fuel mileage.
all that being said, i refuse to run any of that emissions bullcrap. i see no need for an egr. all that said above sounds real nice, but in reality, it means nothing. how many race cars do you see with egrs? i dont like the idea of my nice boosted, methanol injected, finely tuned intake charge being smothered with exhaust gas.
