    Help Identify My Rear, lol

I bought a 2003 Silverado and decided to buy a Detroit TruTrac for it because I was having serious traction problems at the track. I did 18 sec in the 1/4 spinning the whole way, lol. DR's helped a lot(13.9 1/4) but still some wheel spin so I can't hammer it.

Any ways, I went online and ordered a DTT for the Chevy 8.5/8.6 10 bolt assuming that is what I had since they come standard on the Silverado. Problem is my truck is a foreign(Mexico) model so it has a different rear end(Latin rear ohh great now I am thinking Vida Guerra). The shop that was going to install the DTT told me that I did not have a 10 bolt but a Dana. They were not sure exactly which one only that it was smaller than the 60. I ended up selling the DTT to a member on PT.

I looked online and it looks like a Dana 44. I went to another shop and they said it looked like a Dana Super 44 and in order to get a Posi in there I would need a c-clip eliminator and a bunch of other stuff. It would cost about $1600-1800.

Can anyone here tell me what rear end I have? And if I can get some sort of Posi in it?

    Here are some pics.

I don't know where it was made but it was purchased in Mexico. I think it was assembled here and exported there. But they were manufactured with that in mind so they are a little different then the ones for sale here. It is considered a 2500 over there. The differential is different and the brake system, suspension etc.

I am trying to get away with just putting a DTT in it rather than buying a 14 bolt. I was told to look for a Silverado SS RWD because they came with the 14 bolt.

BTW, I found this one "Semi floater 14 bolt 6 lug chevy differential from a 1991 chevy truck". Would it work? Supposedly the Avalanch and Esky also have a 14 bolt but the suspension is totally different.

    Thanks,

I used a diagram just like that from a 4x4 site and looked for the numbers. I wrote them all down and have been calling all the differential shops in Southern Cali for the last month to no avail. Actually, I have one shop that said they can get something for it but I don't want to get my hopes up until the open her up.

It is a 1500 in the USA but the sales documents show it as a 2500 in Mexico. It was built in the USA and exported to Mexico.

All I can tell is that it's an 8.625" ring gear with 3.73 ratio. I can also get every GM part number for all the internals but nothing I have access to tells me what manufacturer it is or what model.

    Thanks,
That is what my local dealer said also. They also mentioned something about "American Saginaw".

One of the many diff shops I contacted thinks they have something. I am going to drive over there(two hour drive) to check it out.

use the one from the 91.it should be alot more reasonable and stronger thean yours.i just installed a 14 bolt from a 95 pickup in mine .i did have to move the perches out 1 inch on each side and go to drum brakes ,but that was easy ,and i think the drums stop better.but i got the rear for 600,verses 2k plus for a newer ss or vmax rear.
