Thread: New 6.0 in 3 months

  1. #1
Well, I picked up a 6.0 longblock Thursday in Dallas. Pretty good deal ($800)

    Here are the plans:
    6.0 Heads: (have)
    2.02/1.57 valves
    P/P
    Manley double springs (have)
    Ti retainers

    Block:
    Stock crank (have)
    Stock rods (have)
    Diamond (or similar) forged pistons
ARP rod & main bolts (have)
New bearings (crank & cam) probably don't need them, but they are cheap insurance.
    ported oil pump (have)
    double roller chain
    C1 cam (222/222 566/566) (have)
possible LS6 intake down the road. (no doubt this out flows the trucks. more on that another time)
    Hardened pushrods (have)

    Tranny:
    TCS 3700 + stall
    Transgo (have)
    servo upgrade (have)
blow the tranny and rebuild (possible 4L80/85 swap)

I'm thinking this combo should get me close to 400 at the wheels combined with what I already have (ASM's, LS1 Edit, etc...)

I allready have most of the parts I need so not much will change. I want to build a strong reliable engine and I'm pretty sure I'm on the way. I'm still thinking of a possible bore to 4.06 or so. Maybe next year I'll throw a stroker in there. But I would rather wait on that until I get the reg cab stripper that I want to go nuts with. I think this combo on spray will be good for mid 11's

    What's your imput guys?

i'm curious to see how that 3700stall does, how is the drivability,
other than the valves, what porting or work was done to them, did you have them milled?

has anybody had problems with the stock rocker arms, i was looking at the jessel setup and it looks pretty strong.

like gmc said, i'd like to get some real comparisons between the ls6 intake and ls6 intake.

other than that, i think your truck is going to haul ass.

I'm guessing you bought Matt's block? You should have whacked him really hard, just once, for me!

Anyways.. sounds like it is going to be a nice setup. How long till its in the truck? You might ask Marc about a high ass stall, he is leaving the 4k stall in his truck (and selling his cam, using stocker).. so it will give you an idea of streetability.

    Congrats on the purchase

Ok, what would be better a 6.0 or an LS1? I want to do an engine swap but am confused on which one would be the better motor.

Most ppl go with the iron block 6L is they want more strength, are running high boost, in general, iron is stronger. But, a lot of ls1's are pushing over 600hp, so that should say something also. You may gain a little more with the added cubes from the 6L, but i'm sticking with my ls1. Saves on the wieght a little, makes just as much power.

hard decision i know, but the ls6 block i have revs pretty good, and makes good power stock. I guess it just depends how much money you want to spend, either way you can't go wrong.

    later,
