After getting my Perma-Cool 6pass trans cooler in I was finally able to get some data.

    Morning driving
    B&M Temp vs. Perma-Cool

    145deg vs 180deg

    After work, 90deg+ , traffic
    B&M Temp vs. Perma-Cool
    157 vs. 190deg

What crock of shit , Perma-Cool's ad says "Reduce oil or transmission fluid temperature up to 95 degrees F with this Perma-Cool Maxi-Cool Six Pass Cooler" yeay right!! and it was $89.

The B&M obviously blew the perma cool out of the water, and it is $59. However, it did start leaking after 1year.
Even though the construction of the cooler failed, i still think i'm going to send the perma cool back to summit and get another b&m super cooler

With the b&m my trans temp never hit over 170deg, it did this once after i hot lapped my truck at the track about 6times, i'm sure the perma cool would have been over 200deg if i were to do that.

    Cool, thanks for the comparison
    Now I know to get a B&M.
How and why did it start leaking though? Was it the actual cooler part, or was it the tube(s)?*Edit* you said "construction of the cooler" so did you get your money back/get another one sent to you?
In other words....Did/does it have warranty?

Ya, the B&M was smaller but i guess the design was better, I hated the B&M because it failed but it sure did cool better, and that's what i'm after, i don't want to have any tranny problems again, that was a nightmare.

I'm not sure why it started leaking, the fins actually started leaking, it wasn't the connections, it seem the fins (wierd fins though, you'll see when you get one, the fins are the tubes, hmm) must have gotten stressed somehow or a rock might have hit, but i didn't see any damage at all.

I got tired of being on hold with summit, i'll call them again, and see if it has a warranty.

Hey how did you mount it?
On summit's website, theres this mounting kit for $10. Should I jsut buy that?*edit* mounting kit comes with coolers...just there for remount, etc.

Second, there's 3 types of coolers:
    B&M Hi-Tek Cooling System
B&M Racing Super Cooler Transmission Coolers
    B&M Transmission Super Coolers

Which shold I get? I went to tbyrnemotorsports.com and they have truck specific...for mine...part number 70264 for my truck. It's $65 at tbyrne...$50 at summit..

    Thanks

i'm sure my grill supports are different than yours, but i'll try to describe it.

most coolers come with aluminum tabs or mounting plates on the side with holes already in them , i positioned my cooler on the radiator support, infront on the ac condensor, and just used two self-tapping sheet metal screws and mounted it to the thin metal supports behind the grill. that was for one side, for the other side of the cooler, so it's more stable, i made an aluminum bracket that went from the top to the bottom of the rad support and did the same thing on that side, screwed them in. the big piece i mounted it on is one solid piece and doesn't flex, so i don't think the fins were being stressed and that's why they leaked.
the b&m cooler is kind of heavy, i have a ex$$ radiator and i don't like sticking things thru that so i prefer to mount it to the body, or something solid.
I had the supper cooler, it's rated at 28 gross , whatever that means, i just know the bigger the better, and it's like 59$, get that one, like i said before it cooled very well, just broke on me. i have bad luck though

if you decide to go with summit, you want this one , racing super cooler

just keep in mind that the one i posted from summit was rated at 28gv whatever, and those say 24, i don't think it matters that much, i'm sure both of them cool very well.

Hey guys Mac and I bought the B&M Super cooler
    Couple of questions...
1)Did you guys add any additional trans fluid after you installed the cooler?

We each got 4 free quarts of this when we put the order in...
    http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.a...art=BMM%2D80259

2)Should we completely replace the fluids with this or keep the GM fluid in there?
    Thanks,
