When I hit the pedal and it downshifts to the passing gear, the motor revs then about a second later it downshifts. I was thinking that this might be due to a need for a trans service. My truck has 52,000 miles and I have never serviced the trans. Could this be the problem?

"Passing gear" means different things to different people. You need to figure out in which gear the problem happens. Use manual ranges to know for sure.
When I hit the pedal to the floor to pass another vehicle. It downshifts, but it takes like a second for it to hit the gear.

I believe all vehicles do it. I believe it's just the time it takes the computer to realize it needs to downshift.

That can sorta be normal depending on what car, tune/not, and WHAT GEARS you're talking about. Maybe if we can't get the gears we can get what speed it happens?

A tune might help a lot but I'm curious what size GIANT tires you must have with 4.56's...
35's.
