    Unhappy Truck motor blew.

After leaving HEB yesterday heading over to my friends house to watch the super bowl my motor blew. All of a sudden at cruising speeds all sound goes away, along with all power. Then when i hit the accelerator i hear a clack, clack, clack, clack, etc.... So I limp it home and have to get help to push it in the parking spot because the truck died just before i got it in the spot. after the truck cooled down i had my friend come out and while i listened under the hood i had him turn it over and the sound seems to be coming from the top end right side. Ill be doing a tear down next weekend to find out what went wrong. I hope i can get it fixed before the 21st.

WOW. You even drove it FURTHER after you heard the clanging sound? DAMMIT! You prolly trashed it even further by doing this! Start tearing it down and make sure to take pics! Let us know!

will do. I was like this is gonna cost me more. I was under a mile away from home. So it was not like i went 10 miles. I did not want to pay $100 to have it towed.

Well, you might have to pay more than $100 to fix what you might have screwed up even more by driving it that much farther... But lets just hope that you didn't screw it up worse and that you just broke a lifter or something...

I see you have a cam, not that it matters but it means more abuse on the valvetrain, so hopefully it's just a rocker arm that cam loose or broke.

When you get it fixed, make sure it didn't damage the intake manifold and gasket.

We had a camaro come in, bad lifter so the valve wasn't opening and closing, just lots of noise, and it burned a hole in the intake manifold and blew the gasket out.

    good luck,
    allen

I was told by some other guys that it may be the comp 918's. Supposedly there had been a bad batch. Has anyone heard of this. If it was the spring that broke and the dropped the valve down into the cylinder then i probably screwed my self by driving it home.

Yes, there was a bad batch a few years ago. Could be the issue. If anything, the piston may have been "slapping the bear" out of it (HHAHAHAHAHA) and you marred up the piston pretty bad. Just get the valve cover off and see what is in there..

yep hopefully. I did not damage the piston to bad. I hope i did not crack it or scratch the side wall. If i am that lucky then the piston may be salvageable.
