hahaha. Naw but the dowels work great. Home depot has them for like $1. get 2... you'll have to break one in half. Use the other as an extra. The ls1 how-to is the same for us. Only difference is the minor things like intake.
Some pointers... let the air out of the front tires... get a valve spring compressor, an air tool that will screw into the spark plug hole(this holds the valves up), I pen magnet works well for when you compress the valve springs(the magnet makes it easy to get the valve locks) there are some other tricks to help out too.

"Comparing" LS1's to GenIII's and using wood dowels for something is confusing.

You slide the dowels into the lifter ports behind the timing cover. While sliding them in, spin the cam to push them up because you might have some that stay up, and others that fall back down quickly. Once the dowels are all the way in ( measure length by placing the dowel next to the cam thats going in... make the rod about 4-6 inches longer.) you can take the camshaft out without the lifters falling out.

Never knew that was needed but it sounds like a great tip. Do the swap on an engine with less than 200K miles while the oil is cool....hahaha.

What do you do about the wood left in the engine when you pull the dowels out?
