get jag performance to build you a 4l65e built tranny. that should hold up.

I agree with the jag performance part, but if he is gonna swap to a ls1 or 6.0 with a bottle, he needs to go ahead and skip the 60E and 65E. I mean, if your gonna do a swap, do it right the first time. Or you will regret it later.Originally posted by 02Denali@Nov 27 2004, 06:49 AM

Built 80E from Jag Performance,
02Denali knows all too well what the bottle will do to a tranny.![]()
Like I said, just bite the bullet when it comes to dropping the cash for the 80E because it will save you alot of hassle later.

i will agree completely. i think that a 65e will hold for a while. maybe 6 months to a year with a lot of hp. a built 80e will handle up to 900 torque.![]()

I am not a mechanic, but how hard would that be? If y'all are swapping LS1's in from manual transmission cars, you should just need to find a bellhousing since that trans runs on its own computer. And Allison has bellhousings to fit just about anything..... just thinking out loud though.Originally posted by storm5.3@Nov 27 2004, 08:16 PM

....and a built 80 will shift just like a built 60. But keep in mind it has a higher first gear ratio. So you may want to lower your differential gearing to compensate or you will loose a little on your launches.
the 80e will shift much better than a built 60 due to the clutch pack differences. an 80e swap can be expensive as well.mounts-flexplate-adaptor harness-spacer-bolts-tranny-converter-cooling lines-dipstick-yoke-driveshaft modification-. program on pcm-. there might be more. but it will last pretty much for ever.

80e and Allison bolt pattern is the same on the bellhousing. I forget what mag but someone swapped the Alli-DMax combo into a '89 chevy 4x4 and they are gonna start modding it to see what it will run down the 1/4. Their goal is 600HP YIKES!!!![]()

heh... forgot to mention all that other crap needed for this swap. I only know of one guy that has done this swap in a new vehicle and he is pretty tight lipped about its cost. But to me it seems like it could almost approach the cost of an engine swap.
And I have seen that duramax powered 89. It is super clean and almost a sleeper. I can't wait to see what they get out of that thing. How funny would it be to blow the doors off an SRT-10 with a diesel powered old body style chevy.![]()
