Thread: Running rich

    Running rich

ok look at my sig, you'll know my mods
tuned by Nelson, so I cant tell you what, exactly is set.. but allan can, or maybe melissa???
so basically when i get out of the truck, i can SMELL the exhaust. i can smell that its running rich. I smelled this before the tune and after the tune.. so I thought it was rather normal with the new headers and such.
my buddy mike with an intimidator SS just left and he smelled it and asked why i was running so rich. he has the same headers and cats. he has a Corsa cat back, while i have an older flowmaster.
Im wondering why im running so rich, or could it be my muffler is toast, and im smelling bad things that a good muffler would prevent me from normally smelling? i know that sounds like a dumb question, but im asking it anyway.
i had my injectors cleaned once, about 60,000 miles ago, and i had them replaced about 30,000 miles ago with brand new ones.. stock size.
i cant give you any logs cuz i dont have any tuning software yet.

    ideas?

Smell means zero....especially with a "custom" tune and aftermarket (read: non-functional) cats. Do you have a scanner or WB O2 sensor?

nope, i dont have a scanner, or anything like that, unfortunatly.
the thing is. you can smell the fumes very very strong... and you'd know its not right. last time i changed plugs, before i had to re order a new tune, a couple plugs on one bank were dark, a couple plugs on the other bank were more grey\white. i dont know thier appearance now.

Yeah, But mine smells like its running rich too. wife says my trucks exhaust stinks. But wideband and tune says its stoich. Unless you get a wideband hooked up, and a scanner, its just speculation.

If you are still running cats, I don't think there should be a gassy smell.

If the cats are cold then it might still smell. Some tuning might be able to get rid of some smell but might not idle as smooth. If you wanted it to be like stock then why did you change it? LOL!
