    Lightbulb My Schoenfeld Headers Install

This is my install, I was able to do this because I am not done with my LS1 project. So I was able to pull the engine back out and have full access to the engine, engine compartment and motor mounts. With the engine out and on the hoist, I started by first cutting small pieces. Then mounted the shell back on, and installed the driver side header. I did this 4 times. Each time I cut a little more, until I finally was able to mount the header flush to the head. The way it is supposed to be. When I was happy with how the driver side header fit, I took it back off and re-installed the engine. I put the drivers side header back on and the motor mount on the frame has to be trimmed about 1/16 of an inch. I am not too worried about that, because the engine has to come back out anyway. And I will just do it then. The passenger side header went on without a single problem. I am going to put up some pics just need to figure out how to. Art...

    And some more:

    Again from underneath.

Taken with the engine out and from underneath.

This was to show how close the header is to the oil filter. And yeah I know I damaged it got another one on stand-by.

    Another one from underneath.

    Oil filter and header.

    Oil filter and header.

Blurry shot of clam shell sitting in engine compartment. This was how much I needed to cut.

    From underneath with engine installed.

From above, this is where I have to trim an additional 1/16".

    From below, engine installed.

Nice job Art! I cut the shells on the '81 to fit around the AC so that should work fine.

You need to bend the header tubes away from the motor mount or your going to bake the rubber. Same with the oil filter, you'll harden the paper inside if you see the paint burning off the filter plus you'll be heating your oil up in that area. You want at least 1/2" clearance or more if possible. If you already have this much ignore my reply.

I just checked it, and there is 1/2" of clearance. The picture makes it look like it is real close. On the motor mount there is about a 1 1/2" of clearance. I am going to use energy suspension motor mounts? Will that help?

I had to go check on what you said, I was disappointed with myself for not looking or even realizing that.
