Just got back from an elk hunting trip in northern NM

Well actually I got back late thursday night and Im just now getting around to posting the pics. If you dont like seeing pics of a dead elk or me skinning and quartering it up this thread isnt for you. Anyway, I took tons and tons of pictures, NM is very beautiful in its own way. Southern and SE NM is pretty damn boring but northern NM is very pretty. I left Austin early thursday morning and headed to Hobbs NM to meet up with my dad then we headed on up to Cuba NM after having a blowout on the trailer just outside of Roswell but we got new tires all the way around on it and did fine for the rest of the trip at speeds up to 85.
Right before I left, had to take teh jeep out for some final tests after isntalling all the goodies

One of the river beds we hunted pretty hard that had quite a bit of elk traffic crossing

Toating the 4wheeler out to do some scouting and a cool background

After one of the morning hunts

Old house built in the 1800s, Im a geek about old buildings I have about 100 pics between the two houses

Amazing how they built stuff back then

Another house small ass doors, Im only 6'

Someone had to hand shape these planks

My dad caught me sleeping, oops:emb:

    BLACK sand hills

Whole lotta nothin heading towards Farmington, NM, we were literally 45 minutes from the four corners, but we just didnt have time to go out there and make it back for the evening hunt which was a good thing because thats the evening hunt I got my elk

320#s field dressed out, not a big one but big enough for two guys trying to throw it on the rack

Not bad shot placement for a 365yd shot when she was in a dead run because my dad scared her, two other cows and a bull up after he dropped me off. I was a bit surprised I hit her to be honest but I guess all those countless hours at the gun range paid off.:bigun2:

    Skin'n her out

Something Ive never seen before in all my years of hunting a double knee
    Good leg

I had fun but damn it was good to be back in TX:judge:

For those that dont know me well, my last name is Hicks

Passed the hell out, starting to get the picture of how my dog is?:jest:

And last but not least what he does to windows, all my windows looked like that

The elk is at the processors right now getting made into sausage, steaks and roasts, the roast is going to make some damn good jerky I had a great time, and it was the first time in a long time my dad and I have been able to spend some good quality time with each other. I think we are going to start doing it every year:fluffy:

Should have peed right in front of the sign and seen which way it flowed.
