Here's what I'm thinking as the HPE 408 is WAY overbuilt for what I need. I don't need forged crank or H-beams on a street NA vehicle.

6.0 low output motor
Diamond or Arias flat tops (10.4:1 comp on a 70cc chamber which is stock 6.0)
TSS gapless rings
ARP rod bolts
New rod bearings
ARP main bolts (or studs dependant on price)
New main bearings

Cam, TR220 probably or 224. 220 would be better for my heavy truck I bet.

Stock 6.0 heads for now (big chamber Z06 ones), then maybe some ported ones later on.

I was thinking 380-400rwhp should be attainable with that setup. What ya guys think?

The rest should be/is now: Yank TT3K, have shorty headers (will go to LTs), and 4.56:1 gears on the 33" shoes I'm running.

easily obtainable. With longtubes very easy. I have a friend that did cam air intake and an exhaust cutout, he made 320 rwhp. No headers. that was on a 5.3 too. I think that with a good dyno tune and if you polish up those heads, you will be over 400 rwhp. no doubt. keep me updated.

I don't like the ASM headers so it'll be TOG or Thorleys. I had a set of ASMs and they were nice build quality but POOR coating.

Sounds good, I'd be more than pleased with a high 13 run. Think that's attainable? I weigh around 5500lbs I believe...

i think 13's are possible. like i said, with a good tune and a hard shifting trans ,you could be pulling really hard the whole time. You wont have any trouble hooking up with the 4wd, even with 2wd you can still launch pretty good without too much spin. are you sure you weigh that much?

I don't know what it would do on your perticular application, but I love my TR224 cam!!!!! This thing pulls like crazy with the 3000 stall and 3.73gears. It's got a mean ass lope to it at idle too

That would be a shit load of vacuum though

Well for the 6.0 it's only a gapless 2nd ring... if that makes a diff.

How much oil would I lose?

Yeah if a 346 5.7 can make near 400rwhp on stock heads with either of those cams, there's not reason more cubes, better heads, and more compression wouldn't allow that.

Have you considered the LQ9 ? Since it already has flattops? It might save money , last time I looked the forged pistons were about $600, not sure on the cast.
I have a buddy here with a Tr224 in a 6.0, he doesn't have a stall and it's slow off the line, it will boiling the tires, but it really needs a stall. This is in a 01 ec silvy.
I'll have to pull up the dyno sheets, but somewhere around 335hp to the wheels is what I rememberd, I could be wrong, but I'll have to make it to the shop and pull the data there. That was with completely stock exhaust, you could literally here the engine choke up on the top end, I'm sure he's making more now, he put on some headers and a flowmaster.
I'm trying to talk him into a more aggressive cam and some Stage II heads, that out to put the rear wheel power in the high 300's. The TR 224 is small for a 6L, so if you're looking for a daily driver with a decent idle and good driving, it should work out good for you.
The truck ran a 14.3 with single track, heavy 20's and 3.42's, he still has the 20's but 4.10's and posi, I'm sure it's a bit quicker.
I know you didn't ask, but that is what you can expect from your setup, or very similar. Just wanted to give you an idea of what you truck should do.

So conidering the loss, I'd say it's close enough to 400hp at the crank.

good luck,

allen

Now, as regarding Hitman's question on that setup.
I am going to agree with Allen, high 300s rwhp would be expected. You gotta remember that although the 6.0 is bigger, its still powering a bulky drivetrain under a heavy truck.
