how would i install that
how would i install that
Im really pissed I just spent 235 on a new shaft and they replaced the intermiedant and that's not what I needed!!!! I told them!!! And yes the white plastic bearing is loose under dash and makes popping rattling jigglin noise.. I'm really really ticked about that I told them and they said they would look at it but oh no they just can't replace the da** thing! Can I do it!!!? I'm pretty mechanical sound I hate dealerships!!
You ok'ed the amount before they did the repairs, right? If not, you shouldn't have paid. Why could they not replace the bearing? Why did they do something other than you told them? Remember, you're the boss.
Don't hate dealerships, hate the ones that treat you like crap.
You can probably replace the bearing yourself but I'd have a calm and planned-out conversation with the service representative you dealt with 1st. If that doesn't work, go up the ladder. Keep your cool and state your case.
i have told the last 2 dealerships what it needed and that was the upper shaft and bearing. they keep replacing the intermidiante. it is getting old.
but im calling over there today and talking witht the guy i dealed with friday
he was nice but the mechanic was a a** so. ill get it straight and if not where can i get the bearing or upper shaft... and how hard will it be to install
why do you need an upper shaft?
You probably don't need the upper shaft. The bearing is not too bad....just make sure the steering wheel stays centered or you'll be disassembling the column to replace the high dollar SIR coil. You need a 15mm socket and rachet (and a 13mm wrench on 05+) to remove the cross bolt between the upper and intermediate shafts (the lower shaft is under the hood and needs to be left alone). Disconnect the i-shaft from the column and pry the entire bearing and its plastic housing out of the column tube. Line up the new one and push it all the way in. Reconnect the shaft.
That's it.
he said i need a new steering column. i said on a 06 model? yea he said i said ok well why have we replaced the intermidant 2 times? he didnt say anything.
so the new column is 900 installed i sayed kiss my a** thats bs on a new truck. and no help on any warranty its out anyway. what consists of a steering column! cant be much theres not much in there if it goes out that easy
Don't put a column in it until you try the bearing IF you feel play in the bearing. I usually don't ask for stuff like this but I wonder if it makes sense to name the dumbass dealership you've been going to.
I had the intermediate shaft replaced in my 2004 a few months ago and since then the allignment has been crap. They swear the repair had nothing to do with it, but it was fine up until then. Jim Trenary Chevrolet in Union, MO I also had a squealing in my power steering and they said it was a common thing on the Silverados because the factory PS fluid does not lubricate enough. So instead of having a recall, they charged $89.00 to put synthetic in. It did fix the problem for a few months and now it's back. They want to charge me again to do the same thing. Idiots!

2010 Silverado ECSB LS 4x4. Only mods so far are a K&N drop in filter and a Rough Country 2" front level kit
It obviously shouldn't be a recall but I wonder what the point was of their "repair"?
What is wrong with the alignment since the shaft was replaced? We've seen ONE new shaft that was not assembled straight....made the steering off center. That's the only thing a shaft replacement could do to the alignment. The crooked shaft had to be lined up next to a straight one to see the difference.
