Well, like it is mentioned below, with the supporting mods, you can achieve over 500+ hp. But you will need a smaller pulley, a meth kit, cam, valvetrain, properly sized injectors, etc. It isn't a horrible idea if you had your stock heads cleaned up and had a 5-angle valve job done. When you spec your cam, make sure it is slightly intake biased--(for a 5.3L) something like a 220/218 .581/.563 115 LSA. I am by no means a cam spec pro, but something in that range is what I would spec for my own truck.
Yeah, Jason's truck is very reliable and with his 3.42 gears, he does get decent mpgs on the highway...
