    If it has one, it will be between the grommet and the trans.

    What cable are you using?

    I am using the one from the 97 and I can tell you for sure it has nothing between the grommet and where it clips into that little retainer then after the retainer there is a rubber accordion like thing and then the clip...

    Two thoughts I have are,

    1. The transmission is sitting like this \ just not to that extreme. If I shim it up till its level the shift lever on the tyranny should pivot around the same axis and may be enough to take up the extra space. Ill have to test this with the jack and see.

    2. Possibly modify the the shift lever on the transmission by cutting out a pie section and bending it back and then re-welding it. It only has to move around a 1/4 to 3/8 inches.
