    Good and Bad news..

Well the intake gasket started leaking really really badly on my truck tonight, good news is I get to start the swap early. Bad news is its way earlier than I wanted to and I don't have the 5.3 back together yet...

Same thing happen to me! Was looking for a 6.0 and blew a head gasket on the way home from work.

That isn't too bad a deal. I pulled out a perfectly good 305 when I installed my LS1. It served well for 199K miles. You will love the new power and it will be worth it.

Its still okay the intake gasket is a common problem on these trucks. And for 213,xxx miles I am pretty satisfied in its performance particularly the way I drive it...

213k out of that motor with no intake leaks is incredible. What year is your truck? 97? If so, you got lucky. The intakes on the 97s were the worst. the 96 Vortec was ok, and I think they finally fixed most of the probs for the 98 trucks as well...
