What you need to do is get a job like I had. I was a Land surveyor while I went to fire school and EMT-classes. My wife worked at walmart making $9 an hour and I made $11. We cut some corners, layed low for a while on spending, like 6 months, then after I graduated She went to college. I got hired as a firefighter making $27k. 3 months later got a raise for doing good to $30k. Made some friends and applied at a better dept. Did well on the interview, and got the job over 60 people. Started me at $37k. Now I make $39k and in December I get a raise to $43k. Wife has 2 jobs and goes to college. We both work our asses off but no kids helps. If I get the LT position next year when they do promotions, I will be bumped to $58k. You gotta work hard and take all overtime you can get along with cutting on spending. If you do you'll be happy later.
