i just bought a lq9 and it has the 317 casting heads i was wondering if these are worth doing work to or would i be better off getting new heads

if youre on a budget theyre worth having them ported and polished, would be the cheapest, best bang for the buck would be a set of 243s on that lq9 the flow rates are better ..

ok well then what is a good aftermarket head and it is going to be boosted to about 10 #s so I'm not sure if that makes a difference

Call Gunnar over at Patriot and see what he has to offer you. For the price you can't go wrong and he uses original GM castings. Here's their LQ9 heads:

I can't answer that but I know they take a raw casting and do all of the port work and machining so I'm sure they can machine just about anything to get the proper flow he needs.

Yes, stay with the 317s if you are going FI. If you wanted, you could take the 317s to a machine shop and have them do a 5-angle valve job, have them reset/balance the valvetrain, and clean up the exhaust ports. But that is about it. Nothing more--well, maybe have them deck the heads .003-.005. That will help to ensure a true mating surface.
