Thread: EGR Block off?

EGR is nonfunctional during wide open throttle, what could you possibly gain by removing it?

Tune with egr vs tune without egr, Id have to see hard data to prove that the latter would make a dramatic difference.

Removal of smog pump, might, just might on a good day give you 1-2 hp.

The logic that your engine will detonate with the smog pump removed is kinda goofy IMO, its followed by the logic that the recirculated exhaust aka inert gas, somehow cools the combustion chamber, keep in mind, this recirculated gas not half a second ago left the combustion chamber...if you block the egr valve and forcethe engine to intake fresh air...this would be cooler, your engines computer during cruise adjusts for a target air/fuel ratio, its not logical that this simple deletion of the egr will throw the computer out of limits.

Will you loss mpg, not likely noticably if at all.

Will you spend some time adding radioshack tricks to certain sensors to keep the CEL light off and the computer happy, you bet.

Only rationale I have for egr removal is a cleaner engine bay, thats also subjective and may not be on most peoples priority list. Factor in the fact, there is little logic to modifying and engine to begin with, all bets are off.

Only real advice I have, sleep on it, wait a month, see if you still care, if not, then you saved yourself time and wasted energy, if yes, sleep on it another month.
