I'm going to be doing a 5.3 swap into my '63 chevy truck. I have all of the mounts figured out, I'm kind of concerned about the electronics. I have the harness, pcm, and it is all uncut. I'm going off the info at 2000 Vortec 4.8/5.3/6.0 Harness Info for the wires I'm going to need to use, but I am wondering about the VATS. How can I disable it, or who can?
Any tuner with HP tuners or something of the sort can disable it for you for real cheap. I dont know of anyone in California. I wonder if Blackbear is out of california? Just check around on some local forums for someone that knows how to use HP tuners..

Can I send the PCM somewhere to have it done? The truck is not going to be driven for at least 6 months, I just would like to have this taken car of before then.
Oh most definately. I would preferrably send it to allen nelson down here in san antonio. Nelson Performance - Performance without Sacrificing Drivability. Although he is quite a ways away from you, his tunes are almost dead on just from a mail order. I lived 30min away from him and got a mail order tune, and never needed to go back down to his shop to get a live tune because it was basically perfect.Originally Posted by Prerunnerrob

Damn thats alot of money! Any other options just to get the VATS turned off, not a full tune?
Well worth it though.. Like I said find someone that has HP tuners that can do it for like 30 bucks. Or you can find a local tuner that does it cheaper to tune your truck.

Thanks for the info, I'm not concerned about a performance tune right now, just stopping the check engine light from coming on. What is an HP tuner? Any other possible suggestions?
Hp Tuners is a type of tuning software that anyone can use. It works like on a credit system. To tune more vehicles you gotta buy more credits
