Brand new Bassani Headers for the 1999 to 2003 5.3 for sale. Only removed one out of the box to realize I made the mistake of buying headers without thinking that the PORTED and polished exhaust ports might be a little bigger than the new headers . I have only taken one out of the box to examine and measure. I did pay quite a bit for them, but hey your chance to get a good deal. I didn't buy them from the below website, I got them in a package deal with my Radix, so they weren't as expensive, but close enough. Website is for reference of the actual product...they ARE ceramic coated for better heat exchange. FREE GROUND SHIPPING!!!! Let 'em go for first person to ask for my Paypal account name at $500.

I would call them shorties. There aren't advertised as anything. The definitely don't go all the way down under the truck...so let's call them shorties.

I have an 01 with egr and no a.i.r., do you know if these will work on it? If they do, I'll round up the 500 for you!

Hey yeary01z71, let me make a call to the rep tomorrow to make sure. I would imagine if you made a custom plug for the air port you'd be fine, but let me check unless someone else here knows...write you tomorrow. thanks!!!

Yep, just make a cover. Everything else will work out fine. "The headers will fit the 5.3L on 99 to 03...if you don't have the air model but have the air headers, just make a custom cover for the air hole and bolt it on in place of the air tube." The headers are at a custom mechanic shop, BlackJack Auto & Truck (www.marylandmonster.com) that I am having some work done on my truck and he'll probably make that cover for ya if I ask him nice enough. Worst case scenario a small fee. Let me know if your interested.

Last question.....is the air tube coming off the second tube for egr?? It looks close to where my egr hookup is. I am not familiar with a.i.r. injection, so I am not sure of how many hookups it has or if a.i.r. vehicles also have egr systems.

To my understanding they are one in the same. WORST case scenario is that you would make a plate to cover it (but not likely).

The EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation) is controled by a vacuum and the air hose goes from your air intake to your exhaust manifold (that bracket on the second tube). The EGR reduces the formation of oxides of nitrogen by diluting the air/fuel mixture with exhaust. This lowers combustion temperatures to keep it under 2500 degree F so little NOX is formed (the higher the flame temperature, the higher the rate at which oxygen and nitrogen react to form NOX). As an added benefit, EGR also helps prevent detonation.

The heart of the system is the EGR valve. The valve opens a small passage between the intake and exhaust manifolds. When ported vacuum is applied to the EGR valve diaphragm, it opens the valve allowing intake vacuum to siphon exhaust into the intake manifold. This has a same effect as a vacuum leak, so EGR is only used when the engine is warm and running above idle speed.

Don't let the above (copy and paste) fool you, I am not a mechainc in any way...when I bought these headers I asked my mechainc if I needed the air tube and he said you will if you won't the ability of your motor to eliminate thos NOX levels and the computer to not get upset that it wasn't there. SO, to be sure yeary01z71, I don't want to sell something you can't use, to be sure just make a phone call to the Bassani tech department and ask them directly at http://bassani.com/default.cfm?fuseaction=Home.contact . I have three days left on Ebay, so hopefully nobody gets to it first while you are finding out for sure.
