    Advice please

OK, You guys haven't turned me in the wrong direction as far as mechanical things go so far. So here is my problem.
I have been at this new Dept. for a little over a month. There are three 24hr shifts (A, B, C) I got put on a shift That I was warned would suck. Reason I was giving was It has all the disgruntled workers. So far there is not an officer yet on my shift. just 4 firefighters. I lack the years of service to apply for the LT. position, but there are about 5 others that are.
So far I have picked up that 2 of the 3 guys I work with do not like me. One has 15 years of experience in other places, the other is just a guy like me. From What I have seen, and heard. They appear to be threatened by me. I guess cause I am only 24 and have 2 years in. They are older. One is 35 with 3 years in the other is 42 with 15 years. Both are STILL firefighters, hence why they are disgruntled. The older one has been fired from other places and almost got sent home today for disrespecting an officer and for disrespecting me in front of an officer. The younger one is a recovering alcoholic that wrecked his car once with a DWI and got of Scott free. of course he has allot to be mad at I have tried to get along and have always respected everyone I work with. But I have run out of ideas.
If we get the grant we wanted from the state i could move shifts to work with the guys I know and Get along with. But that's up in the air. Advice?
Edit: BTW the older one has made it clear that he does not like me. He orders me do do stupid stuff like wear my uniform shirt, under my class A shirt AND have on a tshirt underneath as well. Every other place In the world just wears white tshirts under class A's because it gets hot. I asked him why and he said cause if we get a fire we need to take off the class A's so they dont get dirty We dont have time to change clothes before a call. He does **** like that all the time.

Id say light them on fire. I mean you are a firefighter. You can put it out before they burn to death. Oh I would probably try and move to another department where your friends are.

and if THAT doesnt work out, hey man CVS pharmacy where I work is hiring if you need some hours lol

I probably wont move Departments... Just shifts... I dunno. I was hopeing maybe someone here had delt with people like this before. Ihave, but all I did before was tell them '' go **** yourself!!!'' and that either caused more problems or the left me alone. I cant do that yet here cause I am still new.

I feel your pain bro...I just changed dstricts back in January. Most of the midnight crew i worked with came to the new district with me, but due to senority they got the good days off, so I only see them made one or two days a week. Of course the rest of the week I have to deal wth guys I havent worked with and they never take calls and expect me to do everything....Worst thing is they throw it in my face that they arent gonna take certain types of calls...

Best advice I can give...Let it be like water of a Ducks back...

I know its hard because I myself would like to push some of these guys faces in...

on the clothing, if its in dress code then you must abide by it, if not this is opertunity for them to hang you, dont give that edge, you seem like a pretty respected person, i work with guys like this daily, some old than i some younger, the thing is i treat them like i want to be treated nothing more nothing less, if they give me problems i over look it, ( yeah it may be hard but i do) i am a very patient person, and sometimes they will try to piss me off but i ignore it, bro do you what you have to do but do it by the rules, dont give them grounds to fight against you.. bottom line do your job do it well, who gives a **** what they think or what they do, usually the more seniority the lazier people are..

how long does it take to be a L.T. ? if youre given the opertunity take it, it only betters yourself who cares what others say ...

Hhhmmm, Ive heard this before. Your superiors are feeling you out. If you can work with these guys and not cause a stink you'll be fine. Stay laid back but still let your superiors know that you'd like to change shifts just because of personality reasons. Let me guess c shift?

Actually Im A shift. Thanx for the words guys. Just that they tell me to do stupid stuff sometimes, and I have been a firefighter for 2 years in departments twice this size and run 10 times asmany calls as they have. None of these guys have been in a house fire yet. I have been in 9!!! I have done cpr 16 times with 1 save. I have LZed 25 or so choppers. Worked countless wrecks, and even helped make meth lab busts. The 35 year old told me on my firstday that If I landed a Chopper in the road I would loose my job. Guess what? We landed 2 that day. Both right in the middle of the highway per the shift commander. He also said that If I didnt go up stairs for my hour lunch at 12pm, that I could not eat lunch that day... They either are trieng o get me in trouble, get me mad, or make me quit. But I just roll with it.... Sorry for the venting, I cant talk to these guys about it... I tried.
EDIT... My friend who is a LT. on C shift said that He wishes I could be LT. But the rules set forth by the chief was 3 years of experiance... I have only 2.

They put the bad apples on A shift? Sounds like your just the fresh meat to pick on. To them you are still just 24, experiance doesnt matter, your still new there. I feel for you and have been there.
