I know that on my 01 it goes by engine rpms, not mileage.
if I run at higher rpms the light will come on sooner than if I run on the high way all the time.

i always thought it went by mileage. but now that you say rpms, that would make sense. since when i run it hard it does seem like it comes on sooner.
01 ecsb stepside. best 1/4 14.6 at 92 mph.
So how many miles are you guys getting? At my rate it
will be 7500-8000 miles between changes and that aint
right, NOT for me anyway.

regardless of what the computer says, I do it the old fashioned way.
when the odometer trips 3,000 miles since the last time I change the oil filter and add a quart.
then when it trips 6,000 miles i change the oil and filter and start all over.
I have watched the dummy light before to see if it went off of mileage, and I came to the conclusion it doesnt, it went 5,300 miles before it came on again. this is why I think it goes off of rpms, and not mileage.

Well yu are correct it's engine rpms.I am a manager for jiffy lube, and i watched this for years. It makes no diffrence in oils,or oil filters.I run Mobil 1 and change it evry 2000 miles, cause its free.and my light avgs 4000 miles before it activates.Ive seen some go 8000-10000 miles before it tripped for the customer.

I go by the monitor.
I hear it goes by engine rpm, temperature and things like that.
In the winter, my truck makes me change the oil every 4K miles. Here in the summer, it seems to like 6K mile intervals.
