noob question (now that swap is done)

This may make me sound really dumb....but, now that I have my LQ4 successfully running I had to change the oil since it had been missfiring due to the harness being made wrong (cylinders 6 and 8 where wired wrong among other things....I thought that the oil "spout" cap would just twist off so I could pour the oil in ...instead it appears the whole spout comes off with a 1/2 twist and the top cap on the spout just turns some but does not come off?

Is this right and if so why the "spout" rather than simply a cap?

Does this make sense? I would have thought the "spout would make pouring the oil in easier.

    Thanks
