Ricky, that was happening not to long ago to my truck. It was annoying the **** out of me. I would purposely stop then go then stop then go. Then the next day the coolant light came on, filled it up, and it was fine. So I assume it was that because I have not had a problem since.

i checked for coolant in my oil, the oil looked fine. it wasn't milky at all. i didn't fill the coolant in my reservoir when i did the flush a last month when i did the water pump swap. i will fill that thing up, maybe it should go away.

thanks to everyone who posted up

-jeff, i hope its not that bad the truck only has 57xxx miles on it.

make sure you purge -burp out the lines when yoou add coolant ,ive had oveerheating issues just because of air in the coolant lines .but first change that heater core.lol.what a bitch.

Ricky, I believe that it is the intake manifold gasket. My wifes only had 80k miles when it happened to hers. And I remember filling the coolant up every so often. thought it was just running it out. after about a month I noticed The coolant was going at a rate of about 10 cups in 2 days. then i checked the oil... not milky just look like way to much oil. popped the fill cap and found a little steam. water slowly dripping from the tail pipe. until it got hot then would not drip. It cost $450 bux to fix.

on my old 4.3 before gm redesigned the gaskets they were known to blow which of course mine did and used to use my coolant up quick. once i put the new gm gasket with aluminum siding instead of plastic i never had the issue again...Good luck with whatever you find!

The noise is definetly from the heater core. This is common in most vehicles when air gets trapped in the system from low coolant or a restricted system. If your coolant level is normal you should concider a drain and flush.
