Thread: Need help with pulley nut

    Yea last night I was trying to installing a set of ASP pulleys on a friends truck (2004 silverado 5.3) an I cant seem to get the bottom crank pulley Nut off. I have tried two air guns an a ratchet. What can I do to get the damn nut off?

    Those nuts are held on there by god. Try some penatrating lube and crank the impact wrench up to full steam and hammer away. On my buddies stang, the shop sat there for 15 non stop minutes with an impact wrench on that nut trying to get it off.

    The bolt has a washer incorporated with it and under that washer is loctite. I bought a heavy duty strap wrench to hold the pulley while I broke it loose with a breaker bar. It is very tight and I was afraid to hammer on it with an impact wrench for fear of rounding off the head of the bolt

    get an impact with 600ft/lbs and it will come off, lol.

    or

    put an extension between the tabs on the back of the pulley and something solid, like the ground or frame, so that the pulley won't turn,
    then a long breaker bar,

    put a big socket on it, attatch that to a long breaker bar, wedge it against something, and start the truck, hahahaah jk

    All joking aside, don't start it but just "bump" the starter and it will loosen it up. That's an old Honda trick.

    here is the easyest way to do it ---- get a 1/2" extension by 5" long and use the ear on the pulley and wedge it against the water pump and take it off one person job just ask 02denali i did his in 5 mins later kevin

    That&#39;s how I got mine apart. It took 3 bumps of the starter to get it.

    I got a 24mm impact socket, biggest breaker bar I could find and wedged it against the frame rail so there was no slack. After I got all the slack out, I bumped the starter. It took 3 times&#33;
    Arrival Blue 2003 Chevy Silverado RCSB (stepside) w/ 5.3 and an exhaust leak.
