2005--any way to get around cyl deactivation?

Are ALL 2005 equipped with cylinder deactivation? And is egr an option on certain engines?LOL. I can get a 2005 5.3 w 4,000 miles + harness for hella good price, but is it going be more pain with the great "options"? (fly by wire, egr, selective cylinder management whatever) Convince me that cable TB, no egr, no cyl deactivation ISN'T the way to go....

oOoOooooooOOO..OO! OKOK. hurray When did it start? Any differences and cam/heads/pistons since 03ish? Or is that just near the end of the non-DOD engine cycle?

I think DOD started in 07. not sure about 06, but I think they were the last non DoD.
In 05 you could get the HO 5.3 aluminum block and heads, which would be the L33 I think.

Yeah this should be a stock Tahoe 5.3 with wiring. Is that all aluminum one the vho I hear of?..I am going to try and squeeze the pcm and alt and power steering out of the guy at no extra charge I'm still on the fence as to whether to swap out for cable TB or not. Then it should be pretty run-of-the mill to get the pcm programmed :claps:

The VHO was the 6.0. When they released the L33 5.3 HO, they changed the VHO package to the Vortec Max. I'm pretty sure the aluminum 5.3 was only offered in Ext. cab 4 wheel drive trucks.

The DOD oil passageways should be easily disabled with an LS2 valley cover replacing the stock unit. You also could drill and tap the passages to block them off. You will need to replace the two stage lifters with single stage lifters. You may also need to replace the lifter trays. You will have to verify that when you get to that point.

No, I don't believe they had DOD on anything back then except the Trailblazer 5.3 and I don't think the DOD was available until 06 on the TB.
