    My truck messed up this weekend

    Well I was driving around at my ranch with my buddy spotlighting for hogs....and I wasnt mudding or hauling ass or anything....I came up to a creek and I didnt think I could go through it...So I reversed and accidently put it in 2nd....Then I was like" WTH is it doing in second?"

    So I tried putting it back in D and it wouldnt let me! It only shifts from 3rd to 1st and vice versa....I cant go any higher..which sucks because if I had to back up I couldnt! So I drove back to the lakehouse and turned it off...Heres the crappy part..

    I turned it off and the key wouldnt come out because it was in 3rd.....and the key only comes out when in nuetral or in park....So This is great...I was so pissed I slammed the shifter up into park...tried turning it on...Nothing happens...No something in the steering column is messed up and wont shift that way either....I can get the key in and out but I got 2 problems and I dont know where to start..

    - Transmission locked in the 3rd, 2nd and 1st
    - Steering column shifter doesnt work either and somethings broken in it (Caused by the transmission of course)

    I hope its nothing major though..The dealers suppost to come out the the ranch and get it tomorrow....Its still under warranty

    and hopefully some prick at the dealer doesnt blame the body lift for its cause or some other bull****

    I dont think its the tranny, but I could be wrong. My grandmothers burban did that and my uncle fixed it that day, if you want i could ask him if he might know what it is. he is the most knowlegable person i know when it comes to repair. And I know allot of people who do it. Also he is honest.

    Could be a branch stuck in the selector on the side of the trans.

    That is exactly what I was thinking too... Since you were at the ranch and driving around off road, anything could have kicked up and become lodged in the gear selector cable. If it is hard to shift gears using the column shifter, something is not letting it do so. By getting pissed and slamming it into park may have damaged something internally... Lets hope the dealer doesn't see a branch stuck in there and not warranty the repairs. I would have crawled underneath and cleaned out whatever I could find around the tranny and gear selector cable, then kinda half-assed washed it off to make it look a little better since it was going to the dealer... Let us know what you find out.

    Well I looked under there and there wasnt anything..I looked way before I slammed it.....It was clean and everything....I did go through some goat weeds but I didnt see any under there when it first wouldnt shift.....

    Its at the dealer today and I have yet to find out whats wrong with it...They probably will call tomorrow or the next day

    yeah they are gonna call you....and tell you to lube up. i freakin hate dealerships. no, hopefully its nothing big.

    Talked to my uncle

    He said to un hook the shifter from the trans and see if you can move the selector, if not then its not the tranny. Although I think you said the dealership has it. I dont think they will say you voided your warranty though. If it were me id make sure they show you everything they replaced if you gotta pick up the tab.

    that sucks that you now have to say: "I guess I'm gonna have to be extra careful offroad!" I have owned several 4WD trucks and have used them for what they are intended for---and for ramping off 3' dirt bike ramps, and have never once told myself to be careful offroading... Let's just hope it was a freak thing that had nothing to do with being off road...

    WHEW! So Its ready! and warranty covered it!

    Apparantly the slamming in the steering column didnt do anything....

    But..The Shifting cable broke somewhere!

    So they replaced it and told me it might have been a small stick or something that got caught up inside and made it break internally..

    So Im on my way to pick it up! You guys were right haha thanks for the info! and watch out for those branches and sticks!
